Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Pennsylvania (1742–1798). In 1789, he became one of the original nine justices appointed by Washington to the Supreme Court. Partly-printed DS, signed “Wilson,” one page both sides, 8 x 6.5, January 1775. Document ordering the Sheriff of the County of Cumberland to “take Thomas Beale late of county Yeoman if he be found in your Bailiwick and him safely keep, so that you may have his body before our Justices at Carlisle…to satisfy William Lawrence as well of a certain debt of twenty three pounds lawful money.” Boldly signed on the reverse in black ink, “Wilson.” Several partial separations along fragile vertical folds, scattered toning, pencil notation along top edge, and several edge chips, otherwise very good condition.
