Description

Frederic Bartholdi

Rare and original informational pamphlet entitled “La Statue de la Liberté, Eclairant Le Monde,” by Charles Talansier, 6.25 x 9.25, dated 1883. Signed and inscribed on the front cover by Bartholdi, in French, to his cousin, Berdot. Within the pamphlet are several woodcut engravings of the statue in various stages of construction with two fold out folios at the conclusion illustrating some of the technical aspects of the iron framework designed by Gustave Eiffel. The drawings show elevations and cross-sections of the four girders which connect the iron framework to the statue’s base and offer some dimensions and tension calculations concerning the metal frame, including the outstretched right arm. Back cover bears a printed advertisement for the Paris workshop where the statue was constructed. In very good condition, with portion of back cover missing, scattered light foxing and staining to front cover, missing lower corner tip to cover and opening pages, and some light edge creasing to inside pages. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
