Self-contained portion of a partly-printed DS, signed “J. Q. Adams,” one page, 5 x 4, January 19, 1824. The closing clipped from a longer document, signed by Adams as Secretary of State. Accompanied by a 19th century engraved portrait of Adams. In good to very good condition, with scattered toning and soiling, paper loss and staining to lower left corner and edge, repair to tear at top right with old tape on the reverse, and several light folds. Adams’ signature is clear and bold, unaffected by any flaws. In 1824 Adams would defeat Andrew Jackson to win the presidency. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
