SETTLING THE BUCKEYE STATE: JEFFERSON signs an Ohio land grant in the final year of his presidency

Partly printed DS, signed “Th: Jefferson” as president and “James Madison” as secretary of state, one page on vellum, 13.5 x 7.75, April 3, 1808. A grant for a parcel of land near Chillicothe, Ohio issued to Samuel Dixon. The embossed paper seal remains intact at lower left. Matted with two color portraits to an overall size of 22.25 x 27.75. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (away from signatures), scattered light soiling, staining, and wrinkling, and very slightly irregular ink adhesion to signatures (both remaining clear and dark).
