Description

Signed book: The Splendid Misery: The Story of the Presidency and Power Politics at Close Range by Jack Bell. First edition. Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1960. Hardcover with dustjacket, 5.75 x 8.5, 474 pages. Signed and inscribed in black ink on the front free end page, “To George Booker with high hopes and admiration, Lyndon B. Johnson.” The publication date and Johnson’s allusion to “high hopes,” echoing the sentiment of JFK’s unofficial presidential campaign song, suggest that LBJ signed while on the campaign trail. Light toning and small spot of skinning to signed page, and light toning and edge wear to jacket, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
