German politician (1890–1963) who was mayor of Stuttgart during the Nazi regime. Though his city was a major staging area for deportation of Jews to concentration camps, some evidence suggests that Strölin spoke against the Nazis’ harsh policy of anti-Semitism and cooperated with the French army when Allied forces invaded Germany. TLS in German, signed “Strölin,” one page, 8.25 x 11.25, Oberbürgermeister der Stadt der Auslandsdeutschen letterhead, December 1942. A letter of thanks to Matus Cernâk for his support for the “Slowakei exhibition.” In fine, clean condition. R&R COA.
