Superb ALS signed “U. S. Grant,” two pages, 4.75 x 7.75, December 2, 1879. Grant writes to James B. Campbell. In full: “I have your letter of the 28th of Nov. and note contents. I have no autograph of Mr. Lincoln save those attached to commissions. The address officials of Japan would give their Emperor I can not give you, but anything addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Emperor, Tokio, Japan, would reach him.” A few tiny, trivial spots, otherwise very fine, bright condition. A notable letter with an autograph-collecting association of highest interest! Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
