Revolutionary War hero (1756–1818), father of Robert E. Lee, who captured British posts in New York and in the South and who later served in the Continental Congress. ADS, signed “H. Lee, Jr.,” at the conclusion and five additional times in the text as “Henry Lee” and “Genl. H. Lee,” seven pages on two pairs of adjoining sheets, 7.25 x 9.25, July 23, 1812. A lengthy handwritten legal document related to a land dispute between Lee and Thomas Howard. In part: “The defendant having to himself all first exceptions to the said bill, for answer there unto or so much there as he is advised it is material for him to answer … that in the month of May 1809 this defendant contracted to sell to Richard B. Lee … an estate in Loudon County, commonly called ‘the sugar land estate’ together with an island called ‘Morton’ and part of another island called ‘Colen,’ both situated in the river Potomac, and both adjacent to the said estate; for the sum of $20,000.” In very good to fine condition, with small partial separations and tiny holes along folds, marginal chip affecting no text, faint show-through, and a few scattered spots. The writing is clear throughout. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
