Description

Hughes poses with his 1938 record-breaking around the world crew members

Industrialist, aviator and film producer; billionaire who in his later years became an eccentric recluse. Vintage matte-finish 10 x 8 photo of Howard Hughes posing with his around the world flight crew members and manager, signed in fountain pen by all six gentlemen pictured: Howard Hughes, co- pilot Harry Conner, navigator Tommy Thurlow, flight engineer Edward Lund, flight manager and press agent Al Lodwick and radio engineer Dick Stoddart. Matted and framed to an overall size of 17.5 x 16. On July 10, 1938 Hughes set another record by completing a flight around the world in just 91 hours (3 days, 19 hours), beating the previous record by more than four days. For this flight he did not fly a plane of his own design but a Lockheed Super Electra (a twin-engine plane with a four-man crew). In fine condition, with a few scattered light bends and surface marks. R&R COA.
