Description

This way to the Good Gray Poet: Whitman provides detailed directions to his first Camden home

Immeasurably influential American poet (1819–1892) whose experiments in radically new forms of poetry blended supple rhythms with mystic imagery and celebrated his most profound reflections on man and society. ANS, signed “Walt Whitman,” one page on a white 3.25 x 1.25 card, no date [circa 1873–1884]. Whitman writes in full: “431 Stevens St. cor. West. Cross by Market at ferry from Philadelphia—it is only 100 rods from ferry on Camden side.” Whitman moved to 431 Stevens in September 1873 and lived there until 1884. Attractively matted and framed with a reproduction photo to an overall size of 14.25 x 21.25. In fine condition. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA. Featured collection item.
