Description

Duke poetically reflects on his lunar voyage, “I was one of only twelve ever privileged to stretch forth their arms into the lunar sky, and with the moon’s primeval dust swirling at my feet, cradle the precious Earth within the palm of my gloved hand.”

Moonwalker. Souvenir typescript, one page, 8.5 x 11, dated February 18, 1999, with a colorful Apollo 16 emblem at the top. Duke recounts his participation in the Apollo 11 landing and his own trip to the moon three years later. In part, “I was the Apollo 11 Mission Control ‘CAPCOM’…during mankind’s first landing on the moon. As such I became the first person in history to ever speak with humans on another world, as I confirmed their report of a successful landing with my response, ‘We Copy You Down, Eagle!’ In April, 1972, I experienced the dream firsthand when I flew to the moon aboard Apollo 16, and became only the 10th person to ever stand on another world…Of the billions of humans who have ever lived on planet Earth, I was one of only twelve ever privileged to stretch forth their arms into the lunar sky, and with the moon’s primeval dust swirling at my feet, cradle the precious Earth within the palm of my gloved hand.” Signed at the conclusion in blue felt tip, “Charles M. Duke, Jr. Apollo 16 ‘Moonwalker.’” In fine condition. COA Scott Cornish and R&R COA included.
