Description

Landscaping for Louis XIV

Known as the Sun King both for the glittering splendor of his court at Versailles and the unparalleled glory of France during his 72-year reign. DS, in French, signed “bon Louis,” one page, 9.75 x 14.25, January 2, 1713. An order to Jean de Tusmenyes de Noitel, whose title “Garde de mon Tresor Royal,” is given in large and ornate letters at the top, to pay Joseph Blondel the amount of 1025 livres for services rendered for trees and gardens. Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Louis, “bon Louis,” and also signed “Louis” in a secretarial hand. Document is also countersigned by Phelypeaux. In good condition, with a few old repairs to fold separations, a few areas of scattered paper loss, scattered toning and soiling and a crease through last letter of signature. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
