Known as “Carroll of Carrollton.” American Revolutionary leader and legislator who was a member of the Continental Congress (1776–1778), signed the Declaration of Independence (1776), and served as a U.S. senator (1789–1792). The only Catholic signer of the Declaration. DS, signed “Ch. Carroll of Carrollton,” one page both sides, 6.5 x 8.5, April 15, 1791. In part: “I, Charles Carroll of Carrollton of the City of Annapolis am held and firmly bound unto Abraham Lane of Baltimore County in the full and just sum of seventy two pounds, fifteen shillings to be paid to said Lane or to his Attorney or assigns” regarding the purchase of ninety-seven acres of land in Rochester. In fine condition, with usual age handling and wear, scattered toning, folds, a vertical fold through a letter of the signature. R&R COA.
