Uncommon legal document from North Carolina Signer Joseph Hewes

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from North Carolina. He was appointed to the Committee of Correspondence, elected to the Provincial Legislature, and sent along to the Continental Congress, where he was known as a tireless worker in committee and the leading expert on maritime concerns. He later served in Congress as the Secretary of the Naval Affairs Committee and died a bachelor in 1779. Scarce ADS, one page comprised of two sheets joined to an overall size of 7.25 x 13, May 1764. A legal document in which one John Campbell is compelled to pay to Robert Lenox “one hundred pounds Proclamation money for the three lotts of ground in dispute and twenty nine pounds two shillings & two pence Proc. money for the costs of two suits….” Countersigned by George Browningg [sic] and Charles Blount. In good condition, with toning and scattered mild staining, folds, edge wear (including a tear touching date), and complete separation affecting last line of text.
