No peeking! French continues his work on the Lincoln statue, “it has been photographed, but until the statue is put in place - which won’t be for a year or more - I am not permitted to let them go out of my hands.”

Sculptor best known for his monumental work of statuary including the Minute Man, the seated Lincoln, and the Lincoln Memorial. ALS signed “Dan French,” one page both sides, 10 x 6, July 28, 1918. Letter to a friend mentioning his work on the Lincoln statue. In part, “About the Lincoln - it has been photographed, but until the statue is put in place - which won’t be for a year or more - I am not permitted to let them go out of my hands. You should certainly have one if I were.” In fine condition, with light overall toning. R&R COA.
