Description
King of France from 1380 until his death in 1422, known for his bouts of mental illness and for signing the Treaty of Troyes. Rare LS signed “Charles,” one page, 11.5 x 7, May 19, [no year]. A letter of credence given by Charles VI, King of France, to his counselors and Knights Guillaume de Menillon and Guillaume de Champeaux. In very good to fine condition, with soiling, toning, and a horizontal slice across the bottom. As the autograph of Charles VI is almost unobtainable, and as such collections of the French monarchs usually begin with Louis IX. A superb, very early and important piece.
