Burns,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, June 18, 1887. In part: "Sickles intends to carry out his long cherished intent to claim the credit for the battle of Gettysburg which he says Mr. Lincoln gave him for preventing Meade & other West Pointers from running back to Pipe Clay Creek…Butterfield who represents the disgruntled by Hooker has taken hold to have his little revenge. They propose a reunion with the A. N. Virginia next year and Butterfield has written to Pa R. R. to enlist them to transport 20,000 men, urging them to get a bill through the Penn. Legislature to pay expenses. This is the bold bad scheme of the enemies of Pennsylvania—Robinson will have his slant at Reynolds, Sickles & Butterfield at Meade and all at McClellan, Hancock & Franklin who represented quite a different clientele…Sickles, Sharpe, Bullard, Butterfield, Robinson & Gorham are not likely to stop." In fine condition, with writing showing through from opposing sides.
