Extremely rare Gabriele Skelton contact form for 23-year-old Alexander McQueen, two pages, 8.25 x 11.75, dated November 11, 1992. McQueen has filled out the personal detail field in black ballpoint, writing his name, “Lee McQueen,” home address, telephone number, and date of birth, “1968,” which, interestingly, falls a year shy from his actual birthdate of March 17, 1969. The balance of the form is filled out in the hand of his interviewer, Alice Smith, who makes a list of his various schools and apprenticeships between 1984 and 1992, and notes his specialist area as “Womens Wear.” On the second page in the “Office Only” comments section, Smith writes: “Lee would only be interested in a label. He is a star designer.” Two Post-Its are affixed to the first page, which read, in part: “Lee is putting together his own collection for the photographer Richard Burbridge…He is currently designing private commissions for Isabella Blow (Vogue) & Lucy Ferry…re: a collection for Prince, Karl Lagerfeld rang him at Vogue. Told Lee he MUST write back to Karl Lagerfeld.” In fine condition. Provenance: from the Alexander McQueen Collection of Alice Smith, his first publicist, longtime friend, and muse.
