Union staff officer during the American Civil War and cavalry regimental commander during the Indian Wars (1834-1906) who is best known for commanding the 7th Cavalry at the Wounded Knee Massacre. Civil War-dated partly-printed DS, one page, 4.25 x 2.5, August 6, 1862. Official Army of the Potomac military pass signed by Forsyth as aide-de-camp, in part: "Know Ye, that the Bearer…has permission to pass…to the Lines of the Army, for the purpose of visiting his son." In fine condition.
