American soldier, engineer, and writer (1809-1892) who served as a Union general and is remembered for publishing the Biographical Register of the Officers and Graduates of the United States Military Academy. ALS signed “Geo. W. Cullum, Bvt. Maj. Gen. U. S. Army,” one page, 5.25 x 8.25, February 5, 1881. Letter to the Hon H. Taylor, responding to an invitation. In part: "I extremely regret that it will not be in my power to attend the Eighth Annual Re-Union of the National Association of the Veterans of the Mexican War…but please accept, gentlemen, my grateful thanks for your courteous invitation to be present." In fine condition.
