This delightfully early sketch of Binky, the main character in Groening's celebrated Life in Hell comic strip, was drawn at a most significant time in the artist's career—at this juncture, the Simpson family were poised to begin their second season on The Tracey Ullman Show, and were still over two years away from making their Fox network debut on December 17, 1989. Drawn in his first published book, this marks the earliest Groening sketch that we have ever offered.
