Description

American jazz tenor saxophonist (1904-1969), nicknamed 'Hawk' and occasionally 'Bean,' who was strongly associated with the swing music and big band era, and played a role in the development of bebop in the 1940s. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 James J. Kriegsmann of New York publicity photo of Hawkins in a head-and-shoulders pose, vertically signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To Johnny, Coleman Hawkins.” In fine condition, with a few small surface creases.
