Description

Original matte-finish 5.75 x 4 photograph of notorious Mafia boss Charles ‘Lucky’ Luciano seated beside his German Shepherd during his years in Italy. Luciano, smartly dressed in a suit and tie, gazes toward his canine companion. Photographed in the 1950s by noted Italian celebrity photographer Guglielmo Coluzzi, who was known for its portrayals of Humphrey Bogart, Ava Gardner, Gary Cooper, Burt Lancaster, Romy Schneider, Laurence Olivier, Rock Hudson, David Niven, Debbie Reynolds, Marcello Mastroianni, Alain Delon, Catherine Deneuve, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, and Maria Callas. In fine condition, with trivial edgewear.

Lucky Luciano was instrumental in the development of the National Crime Syndicate and considered the father of the Italian-American Mafia for the establishment of the Commission in 1931, after he abolished the capo dei capi (boss of bosses) title. Deported to Italy in 1946 after his prison sentence was commuted, Luciano spent the rest of his life there, living mainly in Naples while remaining one of the most famous figures in American organized crime.
