Description

Original brad-bound script for The Apartment, written by Billy Wilder and I. A. L. Diamond, 8.5 x 11, 142 pages, numbered "45" and marked "File" on the front cover. In very good to fine condition, with light stains and creases to the covers.

From the collection of Gerda Robison, who worked as a story researcher and stenographer for Disney in the 1940s and 50s. She authored the book Dark Lady, and later served as Cecil Beaton's assistant on My Fair Lady.

Released in 1960, The Apartment stands among Billy Wilder’s most celebrated films, pairing sharp corporate satire with an unusually mature romantic story starring Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, and Fred MacMurray. A major critical and commercial success, it received ten Academy Award nominations and won five—including Best Picture, Best Director for Wilder, and Best Original Screenplay for Wilder and I. A. L. Diamond. Its reputation has only grown with time: The Apartment is widely regarded as a landmark of American cinema and was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry in 1994.
