Limited edition semi-glossy 29 x 20 fine art photographic print of Elon Musk, entitled “Warp-Speed (The Experimental Motion Portrait),” numbered 1/5, printed on 100% cotton, museum-quality archival paper, and photographed by Susan Werner on 35mm color film in 2003 during a portrait session at SpaceX’s original facility in the formative days of the company. Created entirely in-camera with no digital manipulation, the experimental portrait depicts the young SpaceX founder seated amid dramatic streaks of light, achieved by Werner through a combination of slow shutter speed, dynamic camera movement, and the warehouse’s existing industrial light fixtures. The photograph is signed in the lower border in archival ink by Werner, who also signs an accompanying certificate of authenticity from Susan Werner Photography. In very fine condition.
The certificate provides Werner’s firsthand account of the 2003 session, explaining that after completing the formal portraits, the photographer and subject decided to experiment. Using a physical cross-star filter and shooting on 35mm color film, Werner created the image entirely in-camera, capturing Musk seated casually in his chair as the warehouse lights streaked past him. Werner describes the resulting portrait as a candid, lighthearted time capsule from the early days of Musk’s SpaceX journey.
