Space Shuttle in-suit drink bag attested as flown during the STS-124 mission by astronaut Ron Garan during his first EVA on June 3, 2008. Manufactured by ILC Dover, the one-liter Disposable In-Suit Drink Bag (DIDB), 23 x 13.5, is constructed of clear flexible film with an internal mesh layer and drinking tube, and is identified in molded text as “ILC Dover / Item Disposable In-Suit Drink Bag,” with Assy. No. 0110-110110, CEI 110, Spec. 0110-1010, Cage 74897, Mfg. 8/07, and Contract NNJ04HA21C, 8100-66187-1. One circular panel is hand-marked “EVA 1, Garan.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from ILC historian Bill Ayrey, who attests to the drink bag's flown status.
A retired U.S. Air Force colonel and NASA astronaut selected as a member of NASA’s 2000 astronaut class, Ronald J. Garan, Jr. made his first spaceflight as a mission specialist aboard Space Shuttle Discovery on STS-124 in June 2008. The mission delivered the pressurized module of Japan’s Kibo laboratory to the International Space Station, with Garan and Michael Fossum performing three EVAs totaling 20 hours and 32 minutes during the installation and outfitting work. Garan’s first spacewalk, during which this drink bag is attested as having been used, took place on June 3rd and lasted six hours and 48 minutes. He returned to space in 2011 aboard Soyuz TMA-21, serving as a flight engineer during Expeditions 27 and 28 aboard the ISS; across his two spaceflights, Garan performed four EVAs totaling 27 hours and three minutes.
