Description

Emmy nomination plaque presented to actor Rod Steiger, which reads: "The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Presents this Certificate to Rod Steiger, 'A Town Has Turned to Dust' (Playhouse 90), in Recognition of Nomination for Best Single Performance by an Actor, For the Awards Period January 1, 1958 to February 28, 1959," bearing a printed signature of Harry S. Ackerman, President. The background features an image of the iconic Emmy Award statuette. In fine condition, with light overall age wear. Accompanied by a Western Union telegram addressed to Rod Steiger by actor Paul Muni, who wrote: “God bless you Rod. It was one of the greatest performances I have had the privilege of seeing on TV.”

‘A Town Has Turned to Dust' aired live on June 19, 1958, as part of the second season of CBS's Playhouse 90. Written by Rod Serling and directed by John Frankenheimer, the unflinching drama about racial injustice also earned Emmy nominations for Serling's writing and Frankenheimer's direction, but at the 11th Primetime Emmy Awards, held May 6, 1959, at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, Steiger ultimately lost to Fred Astaire, who won for An Evening with Fred Astaire on NBC.
