Description

Look Magazine film achievement award plaque presented to Academy Award-winning director Michael Curtiz in 1947, measuring 6.5 x 10, featuring an inset "Look Award" medallion and an engraved plaque, "Michael Curtiz, Look, 1947, Film Achievement Award." The reverse bears a Medallic Art Company of New York plaque. In very good to fine condition, with some dings to the wood and tarnishing to the plaque and medal.

By 1947, Michael Curtiz was already a Hollywood institution, having won the Academy Award for Best Director four years earlier for Casablanca. That same year brought Life with Father, his adaptation of Clarence Day's beloved autobiography starring William Powell and Irene Dunne, which became one of the year's biggest box-office successes and stood as a testament to Curtiz's remarkable versatility. This Look Magazine Film Achievement Award recognizes a director then at the height of his powers, whose eye for talent had already made stars of Errol Flynn, Bette Davis, and Joan Crawford, and who would continue shaping Hollywood's golden age for another decade and a half.
