Vintage two-model “Viking ’75” display comprising an orbiter and lander, both constructed of mixed materials including plastic and metal and mounted together on an 18˝ x 8˝ wooden display base. The orbiter stands approximately 16.5″ tall with its four solar arrays extending approximately 19″ across; the lander measures approximately 6.5″ in length. The base is fitted with gold-tone plaques reading “Viking ’75 Spacecraft” and “Viking ’75 Lander,” and bears a “Model Development Laboratory, Alhambra, California” label to the underside. In overall fine condition, with scattered light wear and marks and some rusting to the reverse of the spacecraft; the base also bears light scuffing and a scratch. An appealing vintage model display commemorating NASA’s landmark Viking program and its pioneering exploration of Mars.
