Prohibition-era gangster (1902–1936) who was Al Capone's chief enforcer and is widely believed to have orchestrated the St. Valentine's Day Massacre before becoming the victim of an unsolved gangland murder. Six vintage glossy and silver gelatin news photographs, ranging in size from 6 x 8 to 8.5 x 6.5, depicting Chicago gangster Jack ‘Machine Gun’ McGurn, Al Capone's feared chief enforcer and the principal suspect in the 1929 St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and his wife, Louise Rolfe, the celebrated ‘Blonde Alibi’ whose testimony helped shield him from prosecution. The group includes portraits of McGurn, courtroom images, photographs of the couple together, a candid beach scene, and posthumous coverage of Louise Rolfe following McGurn's murder. The photographs bear original wire service stamps, typed caption slips, handwritten editorial notations, crop marks, hand-retouching, and other contemporary editorial markings. In overall very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges and scattered surface marks and creases.
