Original painting by NASA suit technician-turned-artist Ron Woods entitled Space Shuttle Launch / Entry Gloves, accomplished in acrylic on an 11.5 x 11.5 sheet of flown payload bay Beta cloth, documented by the artist as having been removed from Space Shuttle Columbia (OV-102). The painting depicts a rack of bright orange Space Shuttle launch and entry gloves arranged inside the Crew and Thermal Systems Division (CTSD), with a single glove set in the foreground. Stamped in the lower left by Ron Woods. Framed sans glass to an overall size of 13.25 x 13.25, with the open back revealing the Beta cloth wrapped and stapled to a wooden stretcher, accompanied by a signed and annotated note from Woods certifying the flown Beta cloth: “Original acrylic on Beta cloth. Beta cloth removed from OV-102 payload bay. Removal Doc. TPSA TCS-2-28-360. Ron Woods, 6/20/02.” In fine condition.
During the Apollo program, Ron Woods worked for ILC as a suit technician performing suit maintenance, interface testing with the Command Module, Lunar Module, and Lunar Rover vehicles, and insertion of astronauts in Command and Lunar modules for training. He suited crew members for Apollo 8, 11, and 15, all Skylab missions, and Apollo-Soyuz. He also supported the first two Space Shuttle missions as a suit technician at KSC and three additional missions at primary and backup landing sites.
