(Walt Disney Studios, 1953) Incredible original panoramic concept painting by Mary Blair for Peter Pan, depicting a moonlit view of the Native American encampment in Neverland. Accomplished in tempera on an 18.25 x 9 illustration board, the composition portrays a circle of patterned tipis nestled on a jutting outcrop, framed by two rising cliffs and winding foliage. A luminous trail of pixie dust traces Tinker Bell's looping flight above the village, its graceful arc mirroring the curling ribbon of smoke rising from the campfire below, where Peter Pan looks on as Native American figures dance in a circle at the heart of the encampment. In fine condition, with tack holes to corners.
Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions (including It's a Small World) and her largest work ever, the multistory mosaic in Disney World's Contemporary Hotel concourse.
