Scarce original admission ticket to Abraham Lincoln’s second presidential inauguration, 3.75 x 2.25, issued for “Inauguration Day, March 4, 1865.” The partly printed ticket is filled out in ink to admit “One” and signed at the conclusion by Senate Sergeant-at-Arms George T. Brown. In very good condition, with overall light soiling, and small old tape stains to the corner tips.
Held on the East Portico of the United States Capitol during the closing weeks of the Civil War, Lincoln’s second inauguration witnessed the delivery of one of the most celebrated speeches in American history. In his address that day, Lincoln called for the nation to move forward "with malice toward none, with charity for all"—words now regarded among the most significant in presidential oratory. Tickets to the historic ceremony are extraordinarily scarce, with only a small number of known examples.
