Vintage 1:40-scale Apollo Lunar Module contractor's model by Precise Models, Inc., made of injection-molded plastic and measuring approximately 6.5" tall and 10" across. The two-piece LM is removable from the base, separates into ascent and descent stages, and has numerous tiny projecting parts. Includes the original 10.25" diameter black base, which features color logos of both Grumman and NASA, white "Lunar Module" text printed near the edge, and an affixed nameplate: “Best of luck on the new job, Rosemarie & Joe.” In very good to fine condition, with wear to paint, a bend to upper ladder bars, the rendezvous antenna is cracked but still attached, and various missing parts, including two RCS thrusters, an S-band antenna, the inflight VHF antenna, and a section of the upper ladder.
According to the consignor, the model was presented to his uncle upon his retirement from Grumman Aerospace Corporation in Bethpage, New York. He served as a CNC Machining Supervisor in Plants 3 and 5, where he machined major components for both the Lunar Module (LEM) and the Rover. It’s believed that about 1500 of these models were produced in the late 1960s.
