Rare Apple IIe prototype logic board #37 (of approximately 100 known examples), known as the 'Super II,' marked along the edge with a 1981 copyright date and Apple Computer Inc. part numbers '5K4501-01' and '620-XXXX-. This unreleased prototype, developed approximately two years before the introduction of the retail Apple IIe, was part of Apple's effort to redesign the Apple II architecture in a manner that made it more difficult for clone manufacturers to copy. The board is printed with the names of designers Walt Broedner and John MacPhee beneath the Apple Computer Inc. logo, and several of its integrated circuit sockets remain unpopulated. Serving as the basis for the Apple IIe, the design was ultimately introduced in January 1983. The Apple IIe remained in production for nearly 11 years with relatively few changes, making it the longest-lived computer model in Apple's history.
