Amelia Earhart married publisher and promoter George P. Putnam in 1931, after a professional partnership in which he helped organize and publicize her aviation career. Their collaboration began with Earhart’s first book, 20 Hrs. 40 Min. (1928), and continued with The Fun of It (1932) and the posthumously published Last Flight (1937), which Putnam compiled from her letters and notes. Their unconventional marriage was grounded in mutual independence, with Putnam serving as Earhart’s steadfast business manager and advocate through her final flight in 1937.
