Original Apollo 11 16mm color mission film reel, wound on its original 10.5-inch Kodak safety film reel and housed in its original metal film canister, which retains its original North American Rockwell Corporation production label marked “S/C 107, Walterscheir,” with label reading: “Reel No. 69072, Title Apollo IX On-Board, Classification Uncl., Type Color, Footage 800´, Date July 1969, Copy No. #1.” The top of the reel bears an affixed label annotated, “8-6-69, SC107-0898-01, A1602,” and the film leader is annotated in felt tip: “Onboard, Head/Reel #69072 #1 / Uncl. / Apollo XI / July 1969.”
The approximately 37-minute reel assembles seven individually identified Apollo 11 mission film segments, each preceded by its original photographic instrumentation title card recording the date, camera serial number, magazine serial number, lens serial number, exposure settings, photographer, and inspector. The footage includes Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin deploying the American flag on the lunar surface; the Command Module Columbia and Lunar Module Eagle separating in lunar orbit; Eagle's powered descent to the Moon; interior scenes of Armstrong, Aldrin, and Michael Collins aboard the spacecraft, including Collins shaving in weightlessness; Eagle's ascent from the lunar surface and rendezvous with Columbia; sweeping orbital panoramas of the Moon; and concluding views of the lunar surface culminating in a distant image of Earth suspended beyond the lunar horizon.
Each section features the same date (July 11, 1969), test designation (Apollo 11), photographer (Guynes), and inspector (H. Jones), and is distinguished by its camera serial number, magazine serial number, lens serial number, and exposure settings.
