Description

Complete set of the first edition, first issue of Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens (20 parts in 19 monthly installments). First edition, first issue, with "Rigaud" for "Blandois" in part 15 (pp. 469, 470, 472 and 473) and correction slip in part 16. London: Bradbury & Evans, December 1855–June 1857. Paperbacks, 5.75 x 8.75, 625 pages. Book condition: VG/None, with minor chipping, staining, and creasing to edges, and an ownership inscription to the front wrapper of the first volume. Housed in a custom-made clamshell case.

A highly desirable survival in its original monthly parts, Little Dorrit stands among Dickens’s great mature novels, a sweeping satire of debt, bureaucracy, class, and imprisonment shaped by the author’s own childhood memories of Marshalsea Prison. Complete sets in the fragile original wrappers are increasingly scarce, especially retaining the key first-issue points that mark the earliest state of publication.
