Correspondence collection of five TLSs signed by Apple co-founder Ronald G. Wayne to Apple historian Owen Linzmayer, documenting their collaboration during Linzmayer's research for Apple Confidential 2.0: The Definitive History of the World's Most Colorful Company. The letters chronicle Wayne's interviews with Linzmayer, his efforts to gather Apple-related memorabilia and documentation, and his reflections on Apple's founding and early history. Also included are a hand-drawn map by Wayne directing Linzmayer to his Salinas office, two books inscribed and signed by Wayne to Linzmayer, a Linzmayer-signed copy of Apple Confidential 2.0, and a page of handwritten Apple-founding notes apparently in Wayne's hand.
The correspondence, sent during Linzmayer's research for Apple Confidential, includes:
March 29, 1996: Wayne discusses preparations for Linzmayer's interviews, noting that he is gathering "as much material/memorabilia as possible" and describing the project as "a pleasantly unusual experience."
April 22, 1996: Accompanying a hand-drawn map to his Salinas office, Wayne writes: "I've found my copy of the original Apple Computer Co. contract, as well as the letter of formal separation," adding that other "drawings and ephemeral documentation" would also be available.
May 23, 1996: Reflecting on their interview, Wayne remarks that "Few people can resist the pleasure of being listened to" and expresses hope that the information gathered would serve Linzmayer well in his upcoming book.
June 11, 1996: Wayne comments on an article forwarded by Linzmayer, observing that modern money has taken on a "nebulous" character, but that "the fact that the subject is being discussed at all, is SOMETHING!"
April 10, 1999: Following publication of Apple Confidential, Wayne praises the work as "a fascinating and informative work" and contrasts it with books written "WITHOUT EVER HAVING INTERVIEWED ME!"
Also included are signed and inscribed copies of Wayne's Insolence of Office and Adventures of an Apple Founder, both inscribed, "To My Good Friend Owen Linzmayer," as well as a signed copy of Linzmayer's Apple Confidential 2.0. The final item is an Apple Computer letterhead sheet bearing handwritten notes, apparently in Wayne's hand, recounting Steve Jobs's proposal to "start a business w/ Wozniak," the original "45 45 10%" ownership split, the Byte Shop order, and Wayne's later reflection: "I have never had the slightest pangs of regret because I had made the best decision on the info available to me at the time." In overall fine condition.
