Steve McQueen's personally-owned brown leather saddlebags with ornate tooled oak-leaf designs, gifted to photographer Barry Feinstein. Stamped on the reverse of one of the bags with his monogram, "SM." Each bag has a single-strap closure, with buckles intact. In very good to fine condition, with general wear from use.
Steve McQueen’s authenticity in western roles came as much from his physical command as from his quiet intensity. On Wanted: Dead or Alive, his breakthrough role as bounty hunter Josh Randall, he looked completely at ease on horseback, giving the character a natural frontier credibility. That same confidence carried into film westerns like The Magnificent Seven, where his riding helped make the action feel grounded and convincing. Rather than simply wearing the costume of a cowboy, McQueen seemed to inhabit the role through balance and control in the saddle.
McQueen and Barry Feinstein were close friends as well as photographer and subject. Feinstein’s access to McQueen came from trust and shared interests, especially fast cars and motorcycles; that rapport let him photograph McQueen in unusually candid settings, from racetracks to the set of Bullitt to relaxed off-duty moments. The result was a body of images that helped preserve McQueen’s 'King of Cool' persona while also showing a more intimate, unguarded side.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Estate of Barry Feinstein/Barry Feinstein Photography.
