Hungarian-born artist Ferdinand Horvath (1891–1973) worked for Walt Disney Studios during the 1930s, contributing concept and development artwork for a variety of studio projects. He was among the artists involved in Disney's early exploration of Alice in Wonderland, years before the studio ultimately released its animated adaptation in 1951. Horvath's Wonderland drawings reflect the studio's efforts to translate Lewis Carroll's imaginative characters and creatures into animated form during the formative stages of development. Surviving artwork from Disney's prewar Alice in Wonderland projects offers valuable insight into the evolution of one of the studio's most celebrated animated features.
