Designed by the Parisian jewelry house Chaumet, the first jeweler ever commissioned to design Olympic medals, and produced by Monnaie de Paris, the medals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games incorporated one of the most distinctive elements ever used in Olympic medal design: a hexagonal piece of original iron from the Eiffel Tower, preserved following renovation works undertaken during the twentieth century and donated by the Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE) for inclusion in the medals. Presented exclusively to medal-winning athletes, these cases served as the official repositories for some of the most celebrated prizes in world sport.
