The front of the medal depicts an allegorical woman extending a wreath, encircled by the legend: "Amateur Athletic Union of the United States MDCCCLXXXVIII"; the reverse reads, "Junior, Throwing Discus, 1904," within a wreath. Suspended by a red, white, and blue ribbon from its bronze bar, inscribed: "1904 Universal Exposition, Olympic Games, St. Louis."
