Description

Piece of coal recovered from the wreck of the RMS Titanic, which lies at a depth of roughly 12,500 feet, about 370 nautical miles south-southeast off the coast of Newfoundland in the Northern Atlantic Ocean. The coal piece weighs approximately 7 grams, measures about 27 mm x 17 mm x 12 mm, and is sealed in its bag labeled "Fragile / Titanic Coal." The piece was returned from the depths of the ocean during the 1994 Titanic Research and Recovery Expedition, and is accompanied by the certificate of origin from RMS Titanic, Inc., a display case, and an "Explorers of the Titanic" VHS tape.
