Description

Collection of 14 vintage NASA space food packages and containers issued for use during the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs, including sealed meal components, bite-sized food cubes, rehydratable trays, and utility packets retained in their original mission-style packaging. Many pieces bear affixed Velcro swatches for use in zero-gravity environments, with several retaining printed meal identifications and preparation markings.

The highlight of the group is a sealed foil package labeled “Apollo 17 Fruitcake.” Additional items include a sealed “Day 5 Meal A” ration packet bearing serial-number labels, two plastic rehydratable food trays with attached Velcro – one identified as “Bran Flakes” and another labeled “Teriyaki Chicken” – as well as sealed food cube packets containing “Sausage Bites,” marked “Day 3 Meal A,” and “Coconut Cubes,” marked “Day 6 Meal D.” Also included is a sealed “Skin Cleaning Towel” packet, assorted foil food tubes and meal containers, and other unidentified sealed food components associated with NASA’s manned spaceflight food systems.

These specialized food packets and containers reflect the evolution of astronaut nutrition and packaging technology from the Apollo era through the Space Shuttle program, when compact, lightweight, and Velcro-equipped meal systems were developed for practical consumption in microgravity. In overall very good condition for flown-style consumable packaging, with expected wrinkling, staining, residue, and age-related toning.
