Description

Detailed commemorative display model depicting China’s first successful orbital rendezvous and docking mission, accomplished on November 3, 2011, between the Tiangong-1 (‘Heavenly Palace’) space laboratory module and the uncrewed Shenzhou-8 spacecraft. The intricately constructed scale models are mounted in separated docking configuration above a mirrored oval wood-tone display base, 16.25˝ x 4.25˝, engraved in both Chinese and English: “China First Space Rendezvous and Docking,” with spacecraft designations “TG-1” and “SZ-8.”

The Tiangong-1 module, 18˝ x 9˝, is rendered in white and gray with extended solar arrays, Chinese national flag insignia, docking assembly, and finely molded surface paneling. The Shenzhou-8 spacecraft, 15.5˝ x 8.5˝, features similarly detailed orbital, service, and reentry modules with deployed solar panels and docking collar. The underside of the base bears Chinese manufacturing markings. In fine condition, with light handling wear.

The Tiangong-1/Shenzhou-8 docking mission marked a major milestone in the Chinese human spaceflight program, demonstrating the orbital rendezvous capabilities necessary for the eventual construction of China’s permanent Tiangong space station.
