Vintage glossy 8 x 10 full-length photograph of Carl Phillips Thorpe, the oldest son of Olympic legend Jim Thorpe, posing in his Fort Monmouth baseball uniform. The reverse bears ink notations indicating that the photograph is the "Property of Jim Thorpe.” In very good condition, with scattered creasing and marks, and pin holes to the upper section.
Carl Phillip Thorpe (1927-1986), son of Olympic legend Jim Thorpe and Freda Verona Kirkpatrick, served for 30 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a lieutenant colonel after decorated service in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Following his military career, he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and played a leading role in the successful campaign to restore his father’s 1912 Olympic honors in 1982.
