Description

World War II-era ANS, one page, 5.75 x 3.75, Ritz-Carlton Hotel (Philadelphia) letterhead, no date. Handwritten note from Humphrey Bogart: “Suggest you send the money to Bundles for Britain station, as I have no way to deliver it. Please send it as they need all of the help they can get.” In very fine condition, with a PSA/DNA label affixed to the reverse. Encapsulated and graded by PSA/DNA as "NM-MT 8," with a crack to the plastic holder.

Written on Ritz-Carlton Hotel stationery, this note relates to Bundles for Britain, the influential relief organization founded in 1940 to provide clothing, medical supplies, ambulances, and other aid to civilians in wartime Britain. What began as a small volunteer effort rapidly expanded into a nationwide campaign involving more than a million American volunteers, becoming one of the most visible American relief organizations of the World War II era. Bogart's note, which advises a donor to send funds directly to the charity, offers a concise and revealing glimpse of the actor's support for the wartime relief effort.
