Rare original 20 x 30 promotional poster for the Town Hall Ballroom in Abergavenny, Wales, which highlights an upcoming concert by “The One and Only BEATLES” on June 22, 1963. Rolled and in very good to fine condition, with tack holes to the corners, and a couple of old clear tape repairs to the back of the somewhat fragile intersecting folds. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
Shortly after their UK tour with Roy Orbison, the Beatles performed at the Town Hall in Abergavenny, Wales, on June 22, 1963, taking the stage later than usual due to John Lennon’s appearance on the BBC’s Juke Box Jury. Filming for the show ended at 9:15 pm, after which Lennon was flown by helicopter from Battersea to Abergavenny, landing at Penypound football ground at 9:50 pm and driven straight to the venue, while the rest of the band had arrived earlier and attended a civic reception hosted by the town’s mayor.
Booked by promoter Eddie Tattersall for £250, the concert began at 10:30 pm before an audience of just 600 fans. After the show, the band signed autographs sold for three pence each in aid of the Freedom From Hunger Campaign.
