Description

Black nylon bomber-style ‘Glam Slam’ jacket made by G.A.M.E. Sportswear, size large, with snap buttons to the placket, black knit collar, cuffs, and waist, and gold stitching to the chest, sleeves, and back areas. The left chest reads, “Minneapolis,” the sleeves bear two versions of Prince’s ‘love’ symbol, one of which is inspired by Chinese/Japanese characters, and the reverse features the “Glam Slam” emblem. In very good to fine condition, with frayed holes under the armpits, and some stitching to the inner liner has come undone.

In 1990, Prince opened a nightclub in his hometown of Minneapolis, called ‘Glam Slam,’ named after one of his songs (the second single off the 1988 'Lovesexy' album). Frequented by celebrities, supermodels, and Prince insiders, Glam Slam became one of the city’s hot spots, providing him with a venue to host parties and promote musical artists he appreciated and admired. During the early years of the club, artists such as Miles Davis, Chaka Khan, George Clinton, and Tupac Shakur performed there. Prince also performed here himself 19 times in less than four years, as well as filming music videos, hosting parties, and sharing unreleased music with the DJ to play for those in attendance.
